the shifting of tectonic plates

With the earthquake in Chile there was a slight shift of tectonic plates, an infinitesimal variance in time, and people are already saying, "this is the end of the world"..is it? Is this another portent to the end of the world as we know it? (cue in R.E.M.) What if it is. It seems that these portents have been going on for the past two thousand years and still it goes on, that is, the world. Granted, things increase in number it seems (or is it just a natural ebb and flow?), like floods and earthquakes and natural, unnatural disasters. Horrible, horrible wars, violence, envy, greed, avarice, lust, gluttony, the seven deadly sins, oh my.
But that is all out there, isn't it?
While in here, we (including me), have our lives. Personal. Industrious. Loving. Caring. Giving (we tell ourselves). But they, the good things, like a stack of cards, are precipitous, where a gentle breeze will bring it (everything, everything) down . Cause and effect. And yet, still, we have the many, many blessings of home and hearth and children and cats and cars and jobs and debt.
What will happen to us, the United States of Aminerica..hm? With so much debt? I wonder. As I, or we (because the boys are unfortunately, by default, part of this) move one step closer to signing away the house tomorrow? today? While the cat still calmly sits near the window, in the sun, oblivious, looking out at..probably birds (rascal!). And me, with the need to pack and sort and box and find another place to live, if only for a time. Perhaps, perhaps.
Cause, and effect. The end of something.
The shifting of another tectonic plate.

(it does sound so dramatic put this way...or perhaps it's just me in middle age mordor).

" Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this." Job 38:18. (God, talking to Job and company)...
