Yesterday was the first snowfall of the season. Elliot spent his usual Saturday night and we read books and watched a movie. At midnight, still awake, we stood at the back slider and watched the snow whirl around in the lamplight and blow off the neighbor's roof. It looked like magic dust, fine and crystalline. He fell asleep soon after and the house was quiet. Except for the cats lounging at the end of the bed, we were alone. Around us was silence and snow.
